Genaro Molina

Photojournalists do not have an easy job. Partly that’s because it looks so easy - just point and shoot, right? Then, repeat - and many aren’t aware of how deceptively difficult it is to get the right shot, to capture the fleeting moment that would otherwise escape forever were you not adroit enough to snap up the light and hold onto it for eternity.

One of the photojournalists I’ve long admired for producing eye-popping story-telling imagery is Genaro Molina (seen here flickr.com/photos/laphoto1/2202685898/in/photostream in action covering then-Candidate Barack Obama), a veteran of California newspapers who’s been an award-winning mainstay for the Los Angeles Times since 1995. Check out this article here with Bluemercury COO Barry Beck, latimes.com/fashion/la-ig-bluemercury-20171020-story.html and look at how Genaro captures the essence of this new store opening up in LA. Check out his portfolio on the Annenberg Photospace here annenbergphotospace.org/person/genaro-molina and absorb the dramatic nature of the layers he stacks into his posed and produced photos.

Genaro even did a photo shoot with legendary singer/songwriter Tom Petty just days before the musician died. His work here gettyimages.com/album/at-home-with-tom-petty-photographer-genaro-molina-photographed--WKAyhHmQTUewM0MhcT6YeA takes on a much more somber tone in the aftermath of events.

Recognize compelling photography and the talent that goes into producing it. It’s more than meets the eye.
